About the Budget Explorer
Welcome to Anoka County's tool for helping you learn more about the county's
budget. Our goal is to make the budget process more open and transparent.
The county budget is large and complex, but the Budget Explorer lets you break it
down and look at the smallest, simplest pieces. You can explore not only
the current budget adopted for this year but also compare it to the two previous
years.
The Budget Explorer gives you multiple ways to see the county budget:
- Budget Summary: Shows how the Tax Levy and Tax
Credits/Aids balances with the Operating Budget and Other Sources and Uses of
Funds. Go to Budget Summary.
- Rate Calculations: Shows how Net Tax Capacity,
Net Tax Levy, and Estimated County Tax Rate are calculated. Go to
Rate Calculations.
- Budget by Object: Like any household, Anoka
County makes a budget with categories for income and expenses. The Budget
by Object tool lets you see the county's total amount for broad categories, such
as revenues from taxes and expenditures for salaries and benefits. Then it
lets you drill down to the details, such as how much the county spent on health
insurance last year. Go to Budget by Object.
- Budget by Program: County government has many
responsibilities. To show what it costs to meet those responsibilities,
Anoka County breaks its total budget down into program areas and then into
individual departments. Within departments you can see details, such as
expenditures for computers and supplies. Go to
Budget by Program.
The Budget Explorer is a work in progress. We welcome your comments and
suggestions for improvement. Please send them by email to
